Located at 177 Berrima Road, Moss Vale, on the corner of Bowman Road within the Council's Resource Recovery Centre (RRC) complex, Wingecarribee Animal Shelter is dedicated to the care and rehoming of cats and dogs. Entry to the shelter is by appointment only and is reserved for genuine enquiries about adopting pets. All visitors, including volunteers, must report to the shelter office upon arrival.

Animal surrenders are also handled by appointment. Please contact the Shelter Team at 02 4868 1520 to discuss the surrender process or to arrange an appointment.

Operating Hours:

  • Monday to Friday: 10:00 am to 4:00 pm
  • Weekends: 10:00 am to 12:00 pm (noon)
  • Public Holidays: Closed
Adoption: The shelter has a variety of animals available for adoption. Interested individuals are encouraged to make appointments to ensure a structured and supportive adoption process. Visit our Pet Rescue website to view additional animals available for adoption.

Volunteering: The Wingecarribee Animal Shelter relies on a committed team of volunteers, including dog walkers and cat cuddlers. New volunteers are always welcome. Volunteers must be at least 16 years old, and those under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

To volunteer, complete an online application form and call the Shelter Team at 02 4868 1520 to book an induction appointment. Volunteer dog walking is available on most public holidays by prior arrangement, though cat cuddling is not available on public holidays.

Volunteer Dog Walkers:

  • Schedule: 7 days a week, 8:30 am - 9:30/10 am
  • Provided Items: Vests, dog treats, harnesses, dog toys, leads
Volunteer Cat Cuddlers:

  • Schedule:
    • Monday to Friday: 10:30 am - 3:00 pm
    • Saturday and Sunday: 10:00 am - 12:00 pm (noon)
  • Provided Items: Cat treats and toys
Minimal Euthanasia Policy: The shelter operates with a philosophy of minimal euthanasia, providing care and opportunities for rehoming without the threat of arbitrary euthanasia. Exceptions are made for feral and infant animals when advised by a veterinarian, in compliance with the Companion Animals Act 1998.

Impound Periods and Fees:

  • Micro-chipped animals: Held for 14 days
  • Unregistered/unidentified animals: Held for 7 days
Donations: Donations of specific items in good or excellent condition are occasionally requested via our Facebook page, Wingecarribee Animal Shelter. Please call ahead at 02 4868 1520 to confirm if donations can currently be accepted.
